NYC police shooting: Video shows 2 NYPD cops shot by suspect during struggle in Belmont, Bronx

BELMONT, Bronx (WABC) — A 23-year-old man is in police custody after authorities say he shot and wounded two NYPD officers during a confrontation in the Bronx Wednesday night.

It happened on East 187th Street and Beaumont Avenue in the Belmont section around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said police received a 911 call about a man with a gun at the location.

Two officers responded, and surveillance video shows what happened when they arrived.

The officers confront the suspect, who they recognize from the description they were given.

The suspect reaches for a gun and a struggle ensues, during which the suspect fires at the officers.

A female officer, a one-year veteran of the force who also serves on the U.S. Air Force reserves, was hit twice in the upper right arm.

The second officer, an 8-year veteran, was struck in the right armpit area, with the bullet coming out of his left chest.

The female officer returns the gunfire, firing five times, and the suspect is shot three times.

All three were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital. Both officers and the suspects are all expected to survive.

Police recovered the suspect’s gun at the scene.

They said the gun was reported stolen from Georgia, and that the suspect is a known career criminal.
